Alexander Porter

Alexander Porter is an Emmy-winning immersive director, documentarian, inventor, and designer behind the first and most widely used software for volumetric video production. Alexander makes documentaries, interactive art and educates. A recent project, [Truth or Consequences](http://www.torcfilm.com/) (Rotterdam, 2020), a speculative documentary about the town nearest the first commercial spaceport comprises a film, a local film festival, and a bespoke virtual cinematography tool.

Alexander founded Specular (since closed), an award-winning collective merging speculative design with software development to create critical art and software tools. Their interactive works showed at MoMA, Museum of Art & Design, Sundance and Tribeca Film Festival, and others. One speculative project led to founding and running the software startup and immersive production company Scatter, raising venture capital to build the volumetric production tool, Depthkit.

Additional credits include The Changing Same (Sundance, 2021 & Emmy-nominated), director Blackout (Tribeca Storyscapes, 2017), and director *Styles & Customs* in collaboration with DIS (Carnegie Museum of Art, 2017). He was nominated for a Cinema Eye Award for Alex Gibney’s Zero Days (Berlin, 2016), won an Emmy for Zero Days VR (Sundance, 2017), and a few Webby awards. Other credits include Love Child (Sundance, 2014), CLOUDS (Sundance, 2014). Alexander is a lecturer at Johns Hopkins, and formerly at NYU’s ITP.
